Gah, new blog, and I'm already falling behind on posting. Not that anyone's really reading, its the principle of the thing.
So today's topic is...Low Level Pet Hunting (and not Dulcy's birthday, we hates this day, we do). Why do I bring this up? Because I've been insane enough to do it not once, but twice. Its a long cold lonely process that turns hunters into scary melee type creatures.
Why do we do it?
Vanity.
Once pets were normalized patches ago the most obvious advantage to a particular pet were taken away. No more caster killers (Brokentooth I'm looking at you!), no more overly slow prowl attacks for larger crits. Racial skills and any racial bonuses were all you got. (like cats and ravagers having that 10% dps increase. See Petopia for details on YOUR favorite pet family)
So all hunters have to really go off of is unusual skins. In my case, the RFK black boar, and the newly tameable ghost wolf. And the only way to level our lovely new pet skin? Killing mobs that should give US experience.
My favored spot right now is Zangarmarsh. Usually while I'm doing mining runs. If you've got guildies who don't mind a BM hunter gimping their DPS a bit, instance runs are FABULOUS for leveling.

Guildies and PuGs
I was going to talk about low level pet leveling, but last night kinda killed that. It started out so well too. I got the still nameless ghost puppy to 39 doing dailies (Only 2k more till epic riding skills!) and one of the gang suggested Ramparts.
Wait...before I go on, I should probably mention who we are, and where we're from. *grin* So...my main's name is Dulcea, a night elf hunter. (Yay me!!!) I'm an officer in the guild Primal Contention, which is run by my boyfriend. I've met a great group of people in game over the last 2+ years, and eventually we all got together to form PC to avoid the drama from hard core raiding, which we'd all been familiar with. We've hit that nice comfy spot in raiding, clearing Karazhan consistantly now with just our one guild run, and those of us who want to see further end game content joining a raiding alliance. /end ramble
Anyway! Our raid's feral tank (the uber uber Aryaltel), has a now alt status hunter. Said alt status hunter taught me a lot of how to be a raiding hunter, in MC and BWL (this was before the days of BRK's blog) and a part of me was always sad that he'd decided to turn his back on his bow and go fuzzy butt. Anyway, Arya said "Let's go run you through Ramparts on your priest." *squees* So we gathered a group, I dusted off non-existent healing skills, and we pwned the instance. Yay! No staff or heal'y necklace off the demon boss (hunter gloves dropped instead, go figure Arya's hunter's in full T2 with an Ashkandi), but I was feeling good. Minus the boyfriend's warrior dropping with regular frequency (he's only 59 at the moment) I kept everyone up and topped off. I could heal! (*inserts "yay for pets tanking the dragon!" obligatory hunter brag*)
So where was I? Oh right, the PuG. While we'd been kicking butt and taking names in Ramparts, a fellow guildie was in a Blood Furnace run, and their healer had vanished. They were halfway through (up to clearing the room where Sleepy Willy's father is locked up), and I figured "Why not?" So I jumped in to practice my obviously uber healing skills. /cry
The paladin tank could NOT hold aggro. Not even on a single mob. I spent more time wasting mana bubbling myself than almost anything else. My poor guildie kept rezzing his pet mid fight to try and get the mobs off of me, the mage and the rogue. And he wouldn't keep that last mob sheeped so we could ATTEMPT to regen a little mana. By this point, I've already blown my trinket, all my cooldowns and I have maybe 300-500 mana to my name. I've been begging him to put up a judgement of wisdom the entire fight. Nothing.
Boss comes out and squish goes the rogue and mage. Down goes my guildie and the pally DI's me. IN the corner, away from the door when I still have full health and tells the group "priest is DI'd, don't run back, she'll rez." (his spelling was all 1337 speak, I've translated into english for easier reading.) DI wears off, and the first step I take towards the door? Smoosh. Dead squishie. So I run back, with my guildie, and everyone else is still dead IN the room.
Me: Umm...I can't rez you without aggro'ing the boss, you'll have to run back.
Pally: Rez us.
Me: I can't without dying again. Generally if the group wipes, you should run back, don't expect the healer to rez you.
Pally: What is this judgement thing you kept saying?
Me: o.O (Yes I did that in guild chat.) Umm...its that spell that helps you give mana back to the party with every hit of your weapon.
Pally: So...it would help you? Where is it? I don't see it in my book.
Me: *whimpers* I think its called Seal of Wisdom, then you use judgement which changes it into something that gives the entire group mana (forgive me, my pally is only 43, but I knew all my spells while I was playing her.)
Pally: Oh. I didn't know that. Can you rez me now that everyone else is alive?
Me: *Sweatdrops*
So, everyone is finally alive, and buffed and we go to make Willy an orphan again. Once again, I'm reduced to throwing renews and praying fade cools down again. Its my fault, I know. I should've asked one of our pally tanks (we have two, our MT, and our shammy who has a 70 prot pally) what the pally taunt spell is. I die, and luckily the one eyed creepy boss is dead a few hits later.
Me: *while waiting for a rez, since the pally is up, so theoretically I did my job* Just so you know, its a lot easier to keep the group healed, if you use your taunt. I think the spell is called Righteous Defense. *loot window pops up with the heal'y trinket, and I roll need*
Pally: *kicks me from the group and whispers* That's what you get for being so mouthy.
Moral of the story. Next time I'll offer to find a group of friends to help the guildie. PuGs just aren't worth it. Its honestly the first time I've ever seen someone play so badly I actually believe they eBay'ed their account.
>.> Boy I talk a lot, don't I? *slinks off, embarassed*

In the beginning...
There was another Warcraft hunter...who decided to jump on the blog wagon.
Actually, every once in a while I feel the need to ramble, or brag or just...yeah. *grin*
And my blog's name? Doesn't come from the hallowed BRK's beloved guild, but the more mundane usage of the word. My main pet is an owl. And while eagles and hawks are more famous for using aerie's for their nest, I thought I could do the same.
And no, my name doesn't come from Don Quixote's famous love . . . but brownie points if you can guess from whom I got it.
